Powerful Theatre, Accessible to All
Island Theatre brings compelling plays to the Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County communities through three core programs—most of them free, all of them powered by volunteers who believe theatre matters.
Since 1994, we've operated without a permanent venue, guided by our motto: "Can we rehearse at YOUR house?" We've presented close to 200 plays in libraries, community centers, and living rooms across the island.
Our Programs
📚 Island Theatre at the Library
Bi-monthly staged readings at the Bainbridge Public Library
Every other month, we bring powerful plays to life in the intimate community meeting room at the library. No reservations necessary. Free admission (donations appreciated).

🏠 YoHo: Island Theatre at Your House
Potluck dinners + play readings in private homes
Three times a year, we gather in someone's home to share a meal and read a play together. Bring a dish, take a role (or just listen), and enjoy an evening of theatre and community.
🎭 Ten-Minute Play Festival
Annual showcase of original plays by Kitsap County playwrights
Every August, we produce ten original plays written by local playwrights and performed at the BPA Buxton Center. Submissions open each winter—deadline February 14.
What's Next
2026 Ten-Minute Play Festival — Submissions Open!
Deadline: February 14, 2026
Are you a Kitsap County playwright? Submit your original ten-minute play for a chance to see it fully produced in August. No theme this year—just write a compelling story in ten minutes or less.

About Us
Island Theatre was founded in 1994 over dinner at Karsten's Restaurant in Suquamish, when producer Louise Mills asked the cast and crew of The Play's the Thing a simple question: "Should I split the profits, or should we start a theatre company?"
The decision was unanimous. Three decades later, we're still bringing theatre to the community—one living room, one library, one ten-minute play at a time.
Island Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Most performances are free with donations gratefully accepted.
