Ten-Minute Play Festival
Our Annual Showcase of Original Plays by Local Authors
Every August, Island Theatre presents The Ten-Minute Play Festival (TMPF)—a celebration of ten-minute plays, playwrights, and the craft of playwriting. Over three days and four performances, we present a juried selection of plays by Kitsap County playwrights, directed and performed by Kitsap locals.
The plays are fully staged and performed in the beautiful Buxton Center at Bainbridge Performing Arts. Prior to Festival performances, we host Meet the Playwrights—a lively panel discussion and Q&A with the playwrights behind each year's winning plays.
2026 Ten-Minute Play Festival
Submissions for 2026 are now closed. We received an outstanding response from Kitsap County playwrights and are grateful to everyone who submitted. Our panel of theatre professionals is currently reviewing plays, and selected playwrights will be notified in April 2026.
The 2026 Festival will take place in August 2026 at Bainbridge Performing Arts. Join our mailing list to be notified when tickets become available.
Ten-Minute Playwriting Workshop
Each fall, we offer the Ten-Minute Playwriting Workshop—a small-group, multi-session workshop led by a professional playwright and teacher. Students are guided through crafting a ten-minute play from concept to finished script. Sign up for our mailing list to be notified when registration opens.
About the Festival
The Island Theatre Ten-Minute Play Festival was launched in 2012, the brainchild of then-IT board member Sara Scribner. The competition is open to all Kitsap County playwrights—experienced and aspiring, high school age and above. Ten plays are chosen from all submissions by a panel of theatre professionals and the Island Theatre board of directors.
With some exceptions, Festival performances are free to the community, with donations gratefully accepted.
